Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU), founded in 1950 as Novosibirsk Institute of Electrical Engineering, is one of the major educational and research centers in Russia. During the years of its existence, the university has trained more than 100000 specialists.
The university has a great experience in training students from foreign countries. Over the last 30 years more than 2000 international students- from Germany, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Bulgaria, Cuba, Vietnam, Mongolia, China, Brazil, Syria, Jordan, Turkey, India, Lithuania, CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), Ghana, Nigeria - have graduated from the university and more than 500 have studied the Russian language.
Within the framework of exchange programs international students from South Korea (Universities of Taejon, Suwon, Kookmin, Seokyeng), from China (Harbin, Dalyan and Shenyang University) can study in NSTU. The University has about 80 agreements on cooperation with foreign universities as a whole.
DAAD, Goethe Institute, German and French, Oriental Cultural Centers have been opened on NSTU premises. Students study English, German and French, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and have an opportunity to continue their education in England, Germany, France, China, Japan, Korea.
In 2007 the Institute of Confucius was opened at NSTU.
In 2009 NSTU became a member of University of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in ⌠Power Engineering■ direction of training.
In 2007 NSTU won the competition for the innovation educational program among Russian institutions of higher professional educational.
NSTU is coordinating the implementation of the main principles of Bologna declaration. Our graduates are granted European Diploma Supplements.
A local committee of the international student organization "AIESEC" has been working in NSTU since 1991. There is also a student club and students of the University publish their own newspaper.
The university's sports and fitness complexes at the Ob Sea and in the Altai Mountains provide recreation activities for all NSTU students and staff members. A sanatorium, a medical clinic, a swimming pool, a ski center and 2 sport complexes are also at the students' disposal.
Every year the NSTU Culture center organizes and holds international student festivals and other cultural events.
The NSTU campus located near the Metro station "Studencheskaya" includes 8 teaching buildings and 8 dormitories. There are also cafeterias, cafes, a Chinese restaurant and a cozy pub "Beerloga" on the campus.

An academic year consists of 2 semesters starting on 1 September and 1 February. Each semester finishes with an examination session of 3 weeks.
The language of instruction at the university is Russian, so international students have to learn Russian at the Preparatory department for 1 year. Training consists of 3 areas: technical, economic and the Humanities. An area is chosen in accordance with the future training program.
Tuition fee (per year) in 2011/2012 academic year is 2500 USD.
On graduating from the Preparatory department all the students pass the final exams and the State Russian Language Test on the first certified level.
On graduating from the non-philological faculties (Bachelor's and Master's Degrees) students pass the State Russian Language Test on the second certified level.
On graduating from the Humanities faculty (Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Philology) students pass the State Russian Language Test on the third certified level.
Housing and living conditions in Novosibirsk
The city is situated in the central part of Eurasia. The climate here is rather continental with cold winters and hot summers. The average winter temperature is from -22 C to -18 C. In summer it is +22 C. On those rare days when it is from +30 C to +35 C in the sun, the water temperature in the river Ob is often more than +22 C. In Novosibirsk there are many sunny days, averaging 2100 hours a year. The most attractive season here is spring and the beginning of summer with sunny weather and short warm rains, and also September, famous for its "Indian summer".
Living cost in Novosibirsk (meals, transport) is about 60 USD per month.
Foreign students may live in the university hostel or dormitory situated on the university campus.
Accommodation in hostel is blocks consisting of 2-person and 3-person rooms, toilet and bathroom. Price: about 190 USD per month (it s one block)
Accommodation in dormitory is blocks consisting of 2-person and 3- person rooms, toilet and washstand. The modern big shower-room and washing machines are located separately on the 1st floor.
Price: 15 USD per month.
Each international student enrolled in NSTU must have medical insurance. Students without insurance are issued insurance upon arrival and registration.
The insurance costs 185 USD (from September 1 till August 1) and includes all types of medical services.
